Cameron Poetzscher is the VP of Corporate Development for Uber where he focuses on developing strategic partnerships in order to grow the presence of the transportation and delivery platform worldwide.

​

Cameron’s professional background is in strategic finance, he worked as an executive in several key roles throughout his 17-year career with the world leading investment banking and management firm Goldman Sachs.

Education and Early Career

Poetzscher received his initial academic education in Australia, where he was born and raised. He studied commerce in his undergraduate degree at the University of Queensland, which is ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide, and particularly well respected for its business programs. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree, he decided to work for two years and gain further practical knowledge before continuing his formal academic education. At this point, Cameron took on his first career role with international consultancy Booz & Company. His focus was primarily on management and technology, areas he would later go on to further specialize in during his investment banking career with Goldman Sachs.

He then went on to study for his MBA at Harvard Business School and received honors in his first and second year before graduating with distinction. After completing his MBA, Cameron actually stayed on at the university to work as a Research Fellow with the school. He conducted academic studies in the fields of hedging, credit derivatives and financial instruments under the guidance of Professor Peter Tufano. His role also included teaching, curriculum development and lesson planning in the finance faculty.

Investment Banking with Goldman Sachs


When his research fellowship at Harvard Business School ended, Cameron Poetzscher was swiftly picked up by investment bank Goldman Sachs. It was to be the start of a long and successful career highlighted by successive promotions in the M&A side of the business, although he started off in the technology, media, and telecommunications division. It was in this division that he undertook a wide range of sales operations and procurement activities, IPOs and equity offerings. He was deeply involved in bank, bonds and hybrid equity financing along with restructuring distressed situations.

During his tenure, Poetzscher concentrated mainly on working with clients with unique business models, helping them navigate associated complexities and financing requirements of various deals. Among his landmark achievements were the lead-management of Disney’s acquisition of Pixar for $7.5B, a $44B raid defense for Yahoo, and Vivendi Games $7B acquisition of Activision. He finished his 11 years in the division as MD of the technology group.

From Goldman Sachs Asia to Uber


In 2008 Cameron moved on to the position of COO M&A in Asia-Pacific e-Japan, an exciting role that involved new opportunities based out of Singapore. He led Mergers and acquisitions across APAC and primarily focused on IPOs, M&A within the tech/media/telecom sectors in addition to finance and healthcare.

 

In 2013 Poetzscher returned to Goldman Sachs in the US and in 2014, after 17 years at Goldman Sachs, he decided it was time to refresh his horizons, and made the move to Uber. As VP of Corporate Development at Uber, he has been using his profound knowledge and many years of experience to form strategic partnerships, conduct international fundraising, and manage complex business operations.
